Dr. Laila B. Hishaw

Dr. Laila Hishaw is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. Dr. Laila Hishaw graduated from Pepperdine University in 1994, earning a B.S. in Sports Medicine. From 1996 to 2000 she studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry where she graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Honors in Pediatric Dentistry. In 2002, Dr. Hishaw completed a two year residency specializing in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio, one of the top ten programs in the country.

Dr. Hishaw had an early, avid interest in pediatric dentistry. During her senior year of dental school, she received award recognition for proficiency and knowledge of pediatric dentistry by the American Society of Dentistry for Children. She also volunteered her dental expertise to many underserved children from Kansas City, Missouri to Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Juggling the demands of dental school and volunteering, she also served as class president for four years. In return for her hard work, her peers honored her with the award for “Student of the Year” for three consecutive years.

Dr. Hishaw enjoys every opportunity to serve in her community to further the public’s education on children’s oral health. She has given presentations to area health professionals, as well as lectures and presentations across the country to her fellow colleagues. Dr. Hishaw’s area of expertise is tooth whitening in children. She has co-authored many research articles in professional dental journals worldwide on this subject. Dr. Hishaw was nationally recognized on Discovery Health Channel’s “Mystery Diagnosis” series. She was highlighted on her role in diagnosing a rare neurological disorder in one of her patients.

Dr. Hishaw is credentialed with the medical staffs at Northwest Medical Center and Tucson Medical Center and Carondelet Foothills Surgery Center. Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Arizona Dental Association and she plays an active role in the Southern Arizona Dental Association. She has had the honor of serving as an alternate for the House of Delegates and chairperson for the Dental Health Committee.

Dr. Hishaw is anxiously expecting twins!! The expectant day of delivery is middle November, and she will be in the office for limited hours through the month of October. Although she will be on maternity leave until the beginning of the New Year, there will be no disruption in the continuity of care to our patients. Her associate, Dr. Priya, will continue the gold standard of care to your child(ren) during this time. Dr. Priya will be celebrating her one year anniversary with our practice this winter. She comes highly qualified as many of you have had the pleasure of meeting her.

Dr. Priya Ramachandran
Specializing in Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry

Dr. Priya Ramachandran is a pediatric dentist who completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin where she received a B.A. in Biology. She then graduated first in her dental class and obtained a Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center - Houston. Dr. Priya went on to obtain an advanced education certificate in General Practice at a hospital based program in Fresno, California. During her General Practice Residency she became well experienced in treating special needs patients with a range of medical concerns. As with Dr. Hishaw, Dr. Priya completed her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio, one of the most respected programs in the United States.

Dr. Priya demonstrated a profound interest in research throughout her training years. Her research areas ranged from oral lesions found in HIV-infected children to access to health care for the underserved pediatric population. She obtained three training grants from the National Institute of Health to support her endeavors. Dr. Priya has received numerous awards and accolades for her research including first place in the National Caulk/Dentsply research competition held in Washington D.C. She has presented her research at various meetings across the nation including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Association of Dental Research, and the International Association of Dental Research.

Dr. Priya is currently credentialed with the medical staff at Carondelet Foothills Surgery Centers and is in the process of obtaining privileges at Tucson Medical Center. Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association. She is a board candidate and is in the process of obtaining her board certification in pediatric dentistry. She completed her qualifying examination where she received the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award for her score in the top 3% of the nation. She plans to take her final examination in March of 2008.

Dr. Priya loves treating children and looks forward to the opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of our patients by teaching and practicing the gold standard of care in our practice. She recently married and plans on making Tucson her new home.
